St Paul , MN: Elva Resa Publishing, an independent publisher whose main imprint specializes in books for and about military families, is sponsoring a children’s book writing contest featuring stories about military life. Winning poems and stories will be published in an illustrated children’s anthology. The contest is co-sponsored by MilitaryFamilyBooks.com, an online store focused on bringing quality resources to military families.

The contest is open to previously published and new authors. Interested writers should send an original poem or children’s story about military life appropriate for children ages 4 to 10. The story or poem must be original, well-written, interesting, and tell a good story about some aspect of military life. There is no word-count restriction. One entry per person please.

Contest Rules

• No entry fee.
• Open to writers of any age: adults, teens, and children. Authors under age 18 must have written permission from a parent or guardian to enter.
• Winning submissions will be selected by a panel of judges that includes staff of Elva Resa Publishing and military family members.
• One grand prize winner will receive $500. Additional published entries will receive $300 each. Each writer with a winning entry will receive five free copies of the finished book.
• Writers retain the copyright to their poem or story and grant the publisher the exclusive right to publish the work. Winners will be asked to sign a publishing agreement.
• A portion of the profits will be donated to support military family programs.
• Deadline: Your story or poem must be received no later than July 25, 2008.
