Author of "When Mommy Comes Home" and "When Daddy Comes Home" in Military Life: Stories and poems for children

Amy Houts, the daughter of an Army tech sergeant, has written more than 35 books for children. She was inspired to write “When Mommy Comes Home” and “When Daddy Comes Home,” poems in Military Life: Stories and poems for children, after reading about a mother saying goodbye to her young children before deploying.

An award-winning writer, Amy's numerous short stories, nonfiction articles, and poems have appeared in Ladybug, Babybug, and American Profile Magazine.Her many books include: Cooking Around the Country with Kids (Images Unlimited); Think Like a Scientist (Pearson Learning Group); and Sesame Street Countdown with the Count (Learning Horizons).

Amy spends her days mostly at home writing and teaching. She is an instructor for a correspondence course on writing for children through the Institute of Children’s Literature. She and her husband, Steve, have two grown daughters.
