New Journal Gives Parents of Deployed Service Members
a
Special Place to Record Feelings, Events During Deployment

St Paul , MN: Deployment can be difficult on many relatives of service members, but parents often face unique challenges and worries. Writing about their feelings can help them sort through those mixed emotions. That’s why Rachel Robertson, author of a series of journals for military families, has created Deployment Journal for Parents: Memories and milestones while my child is deployed, a new journal for the parents of deployed service members, giving them a special place to reflect on what the deployment means to them and their families.

“Parents of military service members must live with an intense mixture of emotions, from pride to fear, faith to sadness, all while finding courage for their children while their hearts are trembling,” Robertson said. “I wanted to give them a place where they could record and let go of their deepest feelings and be strong and positive the rest of the day.”

Deployment Journal for Parents is a personal journal for parents who have an adult child deployed with the military. Gentle writing prompts and inspirational sayings guide readers from the beginning of deployment through homecoming, while a “Keeping Track” section in the back offers a place to log milestones, communication, and special moments.

Special tips sections throughout offer advice on a variety of deployment issues, including stress management, reaching out to others, managing fear, and activities to do with children and grandchildren. A textured teal Pellaq cover adds a feeling of comfort and uniqueness, while a yellow ribbon bookmark and comprehensive table of contents make it easy to find special pages.

Robertson is also the author of Deployment Journal for Kids and Deployment Journal for Spouses. “As a military spouse, I used a journal during my husband’s deployments. It was a place I could be who I wanted to be, feel what I wanted to feel, and say what I wanted to say. With these journals, I want to bring that kind of safe place to other military family members.”
