New Journal Gives Military Spouses a Special Place
to Record Feelings, Events During Deployment

St Paul , MN: When service members deploy, their spouses and other loved ones deal with a complicated mixture of pride, fear, and hope. Writing about their feelings can help them sort through those mixed emotions. That’s why Rachel Robertson, author of a series of journals for military families, has created Deployment Journal for Spouses: Memories and milestones while my loved one is deployed , giving service members’ loved ones a special place to reflect on what the deployment means to them and their relationships.

“As a military spouse, I used a journal during my husband’s deployments. It was a place where I could be who I wanted to be, feel what I wanted to feel, and say what I wanted to say ,” Robertson said. “I wanted to give other family members a place to record and let go of their deepest feelings so they can be strong and positive the rest of the day.”

Deployment Journal for Spouses is a personal journal for spouses, fiancées, special friends, or anyone who has a loved one deployed with the military. Gentle writing prompts and inspirational sayings guide readers from the beginning of deployment through homecoming, while a “Keeping Track” section in the back offers a place to log milestones, communication, and special moments.

Special tips sections throughout offer advice on a variety of deployment issues, including stress management, reaching out to others, managing fear, and activities to do with children. A textured warm yellow Pellaq cover adds a feeling of comfort and uniqueness, while a yellow ribbon bookmark and a comprehensive table of contents make it easy to find special pages.

Robertson is also the author of Deployment Journal for Kids and Deployment Journal for Parents.

“When my husband first deployed, I had no idea I could feel proud and afraid, worried and brave all at the same time. I needed a place where I could let out my fear, anger, frustration, and worry. I could dream about life after the deployment; I could hash out what I felt about the evening—or 2 a.m. —news. Writing is a way for all of us to hurt and heal at the same time. ”
